Papa-Papa's Birthday

Two Sundays ago we had the privilege and delight
of celebrating Grandpa's 79th birthday.
We headed to the park after church, found a somewhat
cool place in the shade and enjoyed a delicious picnic
complete with everybody's favorite - Kentucky Fried Chicken,
delivered by the birthday boy himself!

When Gracie Jo was 2 she had 2 sets of grandparents
and 3 sets of great-grandparents. Keeping them all straight
was a bit tricky, and somehow Peter's grandparents
became 'Mama-Mama and Papa-Papa' - which made complete
sense in Gracie Jo's two year-old mind :) I thought as she
got older, it might change and shorten to 'Mama and Papa'
but, no way! Peter's grandparents will forever be known
as Mama-Mama and Papa-Papa to our children.

Hearing those names will always bring a smile
to my face, and moments like this will forever
be cherished in my heart.

The kids didn't seem to mind the heat at all,
so us grown-ups took turns joining them in the
heat box of a playground. I think we all had fun
despite the sweat factor :)

And following the lead of their father, possibly the biggest
kid of them all, much exploring was done in the creek.
Although we did have one soggy bottom boy by the end,
surprisingly no children were lost during these exploits.

Aunt Michelle was dragged from one piece of playground
equipment to the next. She got a good tan out of the deal...
and the undying devotion and love of her niece and nephews.
Thanks Tante Mic!

And Uncle Garry patiently shared the finer points of
badminton with Silas and Levi.

For the LORD is good
and his love endures forever;
his faithfulness continues
through all generations.
~Psalm 100:5~

How blessed we are by the love, prayers, support,
encouragement, wisdom and example we receive
from our grandparents. And how thankful we
are that this extends to our children as well.
Our family is truly blessed.

Happy Birthday Papa-Papa!
We love you so much.

  1. looks like you had a great day! Thanks for sharing. I can't wait to take the boys back to Winnipeg this summer to see their grandparents/aunts/uncles/cousins and great-grandma.
