This Girl

Gracie Jo celebrated her 7th birthday last week. After months of counting down, the day finally arrived...and we were right in the middle of second cut. Possibly one of the busiest days of the year on the farm. And I know I started out the day overwhelmed by the task of making Gracie's birthday special and still keeping up with what was happening on the farm. Also, our family was leaving for an out of town wedding the next day. And, I brilliantly left all our laundry for the day before we left, so everything would be clean. Gracie's birthday, second cut, 10 loads of laundry, company, packing the whole family up for going away. I really did try to keep telling myself to relax, everything would get done, just enjoy the little moments...but there were several times during the day where I lost the battle. Thankfully, the very sweet girl whose birthday we were celebrating came to the rescue. Every time.
What I will remember most about Gracie's 7th birthday is how she has grown into her name. Gracie Jo means "God's gracious gift". Her life verse is James 1:17, "Every good and perfect gift comes is from above...". All day, despite the business and being fully aware that getting the hay into the bunk was everyone's priority, she rejoiced. Every effort that was made on her behalf, no matter how small, she graciously received and poured out thanks. She truly is a gift to our family. Not once did she complain about the lack of fanfare but delighted in being with her family and the littlest ways we could love on her that day. I'm so thankful for our extended family, all the phone calls, e-cards, and visits that were made to show our girl how special she is. Just as she brings so much joy to us, you all filled her day with joy. We are so grateful to you for making her feel so special and loved! Anyways, you're probably bored of my sentimental ramblings already, so I'll share a few pictures of our day :) Celebrating our gracious and sweet girl, on her 7th birthday:

Peter popped in for 5 minutes so we could have lunch together.
We ate out on the porch just to do something a little different.
Gracie: "This is the BEST lunch EVER!!"
(Really? Hotdogs...? )

The boys were napping and I asked Gracie,
"If there was one thing we could do together for a little bit, just you and me, what would you like to do?"
(insert prayer that it's something I can actually make happen)
Gracie: Mmmm...how about bake cookies and listen to gLee?
Love this girl!!

Thank goodness for incredible grandmas, who make amazing fruit bouquets and know just how to make our girl feel like a princess!

The homeschool group had planned a trip to a doll museum, which just happened to be on Gracie's birthday. So Grandma and Gracie headed out together to Wroxeter for a special time together, that was just a perfect way to celebrate being a 7 year old girl! Nancy took Gracie (and then rushed home to help Peter milk and headed off to a consistory meeting afterwards to boot!!) since I didn't think 3 boys in an enclosed area with 6500+ dolls dating back to the 1800's was the best idea...So thankful for the time she takes to build such special memories with our kids, even on the busiest of days!

On their birthdays, the kids get to choose their meals, so make-your-own pizzas for supper it was!

So fun and SO yummy!!

We always thought, that because of their closeness in age, that Silas and Levi would be best buds. When Gracie's not around those two are a force to be reckoned with but, truly, Gracie Jo and Silas are the best of friends. They really do have a special bond. It reminds me of William and I growing up, and always makes me smile.

At the end of the day, Uncle George and Aunt Alex made a surprise visit that really was the icing on the cake. Seeing Gracie's face when they walked in instantly removed all my guilt about the day. Our kids have THE.BEST. aunts and uncles, hands down!

Happy birthday, dear Gracie...
Happy birthday to you!!
(sung Michael Scott style by daddy - hee!)

Bedtime stories, devotions and a prayer...

And a ginormous group hug to end (somehow, in Gracie's words)
"the best birthday ever".

Happy birthday, sweet girl. You are such a gift to us and we thank God for your life. We can't wait to watch you continue to grow in grace and love this year. We love you, Gracie Jo!!
