Jumping through January

In my attempt to get this blog up-to-date again,
we're going to skip through January in one post.
Are you ready? Here we go!

Like all good Dutchies, we rang in the New Year
with as much deep-fried food as possible :)
So many thanks to Grandma & Grandpa for their
deeeeelicious appelfloppen and to Mama-Mama
for her unbeatable oliebollen! I was pretty tired after
all the holiday-ing, so I was extra grateful for these
homemade treats.

Jude enjoying his first croquette.

Our lief Levi turned 4 on the fourth.
Happy birthday, funny boy!!
Levi continues to bless our lives with his hilarious
antics, steady determination and delight in discovering
new things. We love you so much, sweet boy!!!

Levi got to have a special birthday meal at Swiss Chalet
and stay for a sleep-over with Jude at Oma & Opa's to celebrate.

This meant Mommy & Daddy got to go on a little getaway
to celebrate our anniversary/my birthday/and a little babymoon.
I'm not sure who had more fun those two days - the parents,
the kids or the grandparents :) Thank you so much, Grandma
and Grandpa & Oma and Opa for giving our kids such a special
time while we were away. It was such a blessing for all of us!

Pete and I stayed with our sibs (and the cutest nephew in the
world!) in Missassauga and had soooo much fun just galavanting
around with no schedule and hanging out with family & friends.
The first (and most important) stop: Bass Pro Shop
I just stood beside Peter holding the basket while
he drooled over aisles and aisles and aisles of fishing gear.
I was totally clueless as to what he was looking for/at but
it was pretty cute just watching his hyper-excitement
over everything. I'm pretty sure we'll have to head
back here sometime soon...

We stopped for lunch at this random little Italian shop
in the business district and had THE BEST sandwiches ever!

A little trip to Ikea to stock up on things we *needed*
(my words, not Peter's )

And, of course, as much snuggle time in with Manny
as possible!

Seriously, is he not the most perfectly beautiful little man?!

Back home in the kitchen with my fav baking buddies :)

Jumbo marshmallow cream-filled chocolate cupcakes.

Our devotions this week were about creation.
The kids all designed an animal with 'special features', as
they called them :) So fun to see their crazy little
minds at work.

Also this month, Jude has decided he wants to 'do school'
too. The table is getting a little crowded at times, but it
sure is neat to watch this little crew grow and learn together.

These glasses came in a play doctor's kit from one of the kids.
Hil-a-ri-ous!! Silas looks like the grumpy old man from 'Up!',
Jude looks like a mini Drew Carey, Gracie Jo actually looks
kinda cool and Levi just makes me crack up! Too much fun!

Every pregnancy I am plagued by bladder infections and
UTI's. They've landed me in the hospital on IV and with
pre-term labour, so it's not something I take lightly.
So far, fingers crossed, I've managed to beat them on
my own without antibiotics but this it what my daily
'vitamin' regimen includes: cranberry extract, vitamin C,
5000 iu vitamin D, a prenatal vitamin, 3 'shots' of raw,
unfiltered cider vinegar and at least 8 pints of lemon
water. It gets a bit annoying sometimes but it works,
so it's worth it in my books!

A belated Christmas gift from a very special
friend. Peter now has a new favorite :)

And a little belly shot taken at 29 weeks.
We are so excited for this new little one to join us!!

Well, that's January in a nutshell.
Hopefully I can get through February before March is over?

Bless the LORD, O my soul;
And all that is within me,
bless His holy name!

December Rewind - Part Four

We were so blessed to be able to sneak in a special visit
with my cousin and his awesome kiddos during the holidays.
It was the perfect way to end our year and we're already
eagerly looking forward to our next visit. Here's a
little glimpse of 'the cousins' (second cousins? cousins
once removed? What are cousins' kids to each other???)
enjoying their time together!

These beautiful girls really are two peas in a pod!
An awesome mix of dancing, singing, crafting princess,
with plenty of rough & tumble spunk mixed in, they make the
perfect pair. Too bad there's a four and a half hour road
trip separating them :(

Meanwhile, these boys proved they all enjoy
some good screen time and you could invariably
find them in little huddles around the house
playing video games together...oddly reminiscent of
the Visser/Meinen boy cousins back in the day.
A little Gianna Sisters, anyone? Hee!!

It wasn't a very white Christmas this year, but we did
get a little dump of snow before the New Year and
we made sure to take advantage of it.
I'm not sure who loves being outside more,
Jude or Uncle Aaron? :)

Just enough of a snow pile for some sledding fun.

Working hard - even while he plays.
Reminds me of his great-Opa :)

Rosie cheeked...

...and frosty lashes. It's time for some hot chocolate!

Jude gets a lift inside from the big kids.

-The Great Pickle Escape-
Mealtimes were lively and full of laughter.
These kids sure know how to eat! I can't even imagine
what it will be like when they're all teenagers!!

The girls dancing up a storm while playing Wii.

We all had such a great time together and can't
wait for our next 'City Cousins visit Country Cousins'
Love you guys so much,

December Rewind - Part Three

Our Koobs' family Christmas was another day full of
fun, great food and special memory-making.

Grandma stopped by earlier with plates full of sugar cookies
she had made for the kids, along with a special story about
the gift of Christmas giving.
Everyone snuggled in to hear 'The Sweetest Story Ever Told".

Plates full of beautiful and delicious cookies - each one with
a different meaning sharing the story of Christ's birth.

Such a good story!!

Daddy and Jude enjoyed the story from the couch :)

On Boxing Day we were all able to get together at Mom & Dad's
Uncle Ken and Tante Tina get the BEST books for their
niece and nephews! It's hard to tell who was more excited
here, the kids or the grown ups ;)

Jude and his 'Go!Go!' books

Tante Tina introduced Gracie Jo to the 'Mandie' books.
A new love has begun. She's almost finished book 5 now
and is already asking for the second collection in the series!
I loved these books when I was young and it's so fun
seeing our girl reading them every spare moment,
just like I did!

Levi thinks all the books by Doreen Cronin are just
hilarious! It's so fun listening to him giggle away
while you read to him. And a Spiderman puzzle
put two of Levi's favorite things into one activity -
so much fun!

I'm not sure whether to thank Ken and Tina for this
next gift....a Lego Star Wars encyclopedia has completely
obsessed our 5-year old. Silas now lives and breathes
everything Star Wars - and he still hasn't even seen the
movies! That book gets carried around the house, from the
bedroom, to the bathroom, to the kitchen, to the living room.
I find it everywhere! But watching him heft that big book
around under his arm is so precious. Thank you!

Four generations sharing Christmas dinner.
Lots of love, laughter and deeeeeelicious food!

Another tradition of Uncle Ken and Tante Christina's is
making the most amazing Build-a-Bears for their nieces'
and nephews' first year. They've put together some amazing
bears over the years but Manny's monkey just might be the most
incredible one yet. So awesome!!

The last tradition of the day is always the Chinese lantern
walk. I'm still a little confused about how this one started
(and maybe why we keep doing it?) but as much as us
big kids always complain to Mom about doing it, we always
end up laughing and the pictures make us smile.
So, without further ado,
The Christmas 2011 Chinese Lantern Walk!

Look at my lantern, Mom!!

At this point, no one had dropped or had their lantern
blown out. Still very happy, excited faces.

This was Manny's first lantern walk.
And another crazy Koobs for the clan :)

This was also Mike's first lantern walk.
Can you tell how excited he is?? ;)

Nevertheless, there will be no more gloom
for those who were in distress...
The people walking in darkness
have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of deep darkness
a light has dawned.

The makings of a happy Love Day!

Pete and I have never really celebrated Valentines Day (for
years I was a self-professed Valentines Day hater) but the
addition of four little people into our life has softened my views :)
We really do have a lot of fun making and creating together for
the people we love. Here's a little peek into the makings of
a Happy Love Day around our house...
The kids loved adding little details to each valentine to
make them look like the people they were giving them to.

I'll love you for owl-ways :)

Let the baking begin!
Jude gets lots of good instructions from big sister...
whether he wants them or not ;)

For anyone who owns the Forestview church cookbook,
Jane Gator's brownies are TO.DIE.FOR!! Every time I
make them people ask for the recipe. Jane, thank you for
bringing this heavenly chocolate goodness into our lives :)

Chocolate chip brownie love

Oma V.'s sugar cookies? Yes, please!

Lots of little lovin' hands

That would be my daughter...

Bring on the sprinkles!

And the frosting - decorating cookies is serious
business around here!

Lovin' from the oven

Gracie Jo made this valentine cookie for her
Uncle Garry...

...I'm pretty sure it's the awesomest valentine I've
ever seen in my entire life. Can it get any better than
cows, tulips, hearts and sugar cookies? I don't think so.

Our little love bugs

You are SO loved!!
