Little Boys with Blossoms

 ~May 3, 2012~
Badly needing a little bit of peace and quiet, I kicked sent the boys outside and snuggled in with Katie for a cozy little nursing session. Not five minutes later, I heard doors banging open and cries of,
"M-o-o-o-m-m-y! Come here!!"
"What is it?"
"We have something for you!"
"Can you put it on the steps? I'm just feeding Katie."
"No - we have to give it to you!"
With Katie still nursing away, I maneuver us up out of the couch cushions and to the barn room. Three boisterous boys, their fists full of colour, met me there...

I'll be honest, my stomach cringed when I saw those already-wilting blooms pouring out of their palms. Those fists full of tulips meant the boys had tromped through the flower beds and I could only imagine the shambles they had left behind. (Of course, Gracie Jo was away, visiting with Oma. I take for granted the amount of destruction and bad ideas that are diverted when she's around...) After a steadying breath, I remembered that I don't really care that much about the flower beds. Yes, I love their beauty, but the amount of time and work they take to maintain is so beyond me right now. And there are so many more important things in my life - like these three boisterous boys with blossoms in their hands, for me. I quickly grabbed the camera and, still balancing Katie at my chest, snapped away because I know that very soon these precocious little boys will be all grown up. And I'll be wishing they were still stomping through my gardens, demanding me to come and get their love. Even now, I'm looking at these pictures and smiling at these sweet, crazy sons of mine and thanking God for trampled flower beds, cheeky grins and bitty blossoms.

The End of April

Well, it's half way through July and I'm just finishing up April here on the blog. Sigh. One of these days I'll get caught up!
April ended with our first dabbles in the garden (wearing toques it was so chilly still), lots of baby wearing (as long as mama is close by, Katie is one happy baby) and Silas taking after his Uncle Will. I'm just waiting for the day we find one of the boys on the roof! Having 3 boys in 3 years is definitely proving to be a wild adventure :) April sure was an amazing month!

Art for Oma

With Oma's birthday and Mother's Day coming up we dug into our crafty supplies and got to work on a special gift for my mom. She always appreciates gifts that have taken some time, thought and effort and would always choose something handmade over an expensive present. Thankfully this crew loves creating, so we got out the paints and brushes for some special 'Art for Oma'. Boy do I wish that I had the time and energy to make a second set of these canvases with the kids. This was one gift that was very hard to give away! Mom, if you ever find a blank spot on your wall after one of our visits, you'll know where your paintings went ;) Happy Birthday and Happy Mother's Day, Oma!! We are so thankful for who you are and we love you so very much!!

A Picture a Day: April 22-28

April 22// Laundry, games, and lots of projects on the go. The kitchen table really is the hub of the home.
April 23// And if it's not the kitchen table, it's the island. Once again, everyone has migrated out of the school room and into the kitchen. I guess I can't really complain when we all just want to be together.

April 23// My heart melted when I heard that Makayla named her new baby chick "Katie" :) So thankful for such sweet friends!
April 24// Sometimes, when Levi gets up in the morning, I think he looks kinda like Lyle Lovett. Ha!
Peter's got our tomato seedlings on the go. They're looking a bit leggy but with his TLC I know they'll be great. Lots of varieties this year - some old, some new. I foresee some serious tomato posts in the future :)

April 25// Levi is the sweetest baby snuggler.

 Our little hipster

April 26// Jude and Gracie Jo carrying their 'babies' around in their slings. If imitation is the biggest form of flattery, I'm feeling very loved (and giggling inside).

April 27// Gracie Jo's morning prayer

April 28// I love when babies scrunch up their legs and stick their cutie little bums out. Katie is growing so fast and I'm just trying to soak in the sweetness as much as I can. Daddy and his littlest daughter - makes my heart so full.

 My heart leaps for joy,
and with my song I praise him.
